An accident
involving a truck occurred today 2nd January 2019 at the Pipeline
Junction around the Ogere Remo axis along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The
accident claimed the lives of four people while four other passengers had
various degrees of injuries.
Babatunde
Akinbiyi, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE)
public relations officer said the incident occurred around 4:30 am. He further
stated that the truck with registration number TKP 653 XA carrying yam, lost
control.
“The
casualty was much because some of the passengers, who are also likely owners of
the yam, were seating on the yam in the open space at the back. Thus, when it
lost control due to over-speeding and poor visibility, (they) fell by its side,
with the yam and vehicle falling on them” Akinbiyi narrated
The PRO said
four of the passengers of the truck lost their lives on the spot, while the
others were taken to Idera Hospital, Sagamu. Those that died were taken to the
FOS mortuary, Ipara Remo. As at the time of this report, the truck has been
towed to the Police Motor Traffic Division, Iperu Remo.
Akinbiyi,
while commiserating with the families of the dead and the injured advised
motorists to ensure their vehicles are well maintained, avoid over-speeding,
and if possible avoid night traveling especially during this harmattan period.

A man, 22, jumped into the lagoon from the third mainland bridge yesterday. The man identified as Daibo Toju Davies resides at 17, Sosanya street, Gbagada.
A report said that he had engaged the services of an Uber taxi from a hospital before the occurrence. He allegedly stopped the Uber on the bridge pretending to be having a running stomach before plunging into the lagoon.
Lagos State
Emergency Management Agency public affairs officer, Nosa Okunbor said they are
making efforts to rescue the man.
He said;
“He should be
in his mid-twenties. He ordered a car-hailing service from Gbagada to the
Island. He deceived the UBER driver that he had a running stomach after which
he jumped into the lagoon.
“As I
speak with you, the marine unit of the Lagos central zone has been searching
for the victim since 11:30 am, but we have not found the body.”
Two luggage
with his personal effects and affidavit were discovered on him.
Police van has allegedly been used for commercial purposes in Lagos. This is due to the ban on commercial motorcycle and tricycle popularly known as Okada and Keke Napep in some parts of Lagos.

Also, the officers are attached to the Nigeria Police Special Squad ‘Operation Puff Adder’. So, they stormed the spot in patrol their patrol van and arrested the officers collecting bribe at the Ijesha area of Lagos State.
