A Nigerian and two Cameroonians will spend about 15-18 years in jail for cheating two Vietnamese women to the tune over $65,800.

Ifeanyi Mathew Anthony, Nigerian, 29 and Cameroonians Mothe De Fouda Paul Martial, 30, Nguyen Hang Tcheuko Minh, 36, were sentenced to jail by the Can Tho People’s Court in Southern Vietnam on Thursday 16th January for obtaining property under pretense.

The men joined a group of African fraudsters led by a man called Papa, who lure women on Facebook and defraud them through several schemes.

One scheme was to advertise a $100,000 solution that could be used to earn money through a blank paper.

Another scheme was to request Vietnamese women to receive and hold large sums of money to be given to group members upon arriving in Vietnam.

The suspects tricked a Vietnamese woman from the Can Tho and another from the Phu Yen central province between December 2017 and April 2018

Martial and Minh were arrested by the Can Tho Police on 6th April 2018 while Anthony was arrested later.

Minh acquired Vietnamese citizenship in 2013 and also played in the V league in 2015. Martial and Anthony said they were acting on Papa’s instruction while Minh admitted to the crime.

However, the court sentenced Minh to 16 years, Martial 15 years, Anthony 18 years in prison respectively.
