Trial Of Naira Marley Adjourned By The Court

The trial of the popular Nigerian musician, Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley) was today Wednesday 11 December 2019 adjourned till Thursday 12 December 2019 by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. It will be recalled that Naira Marley has been facing theft and fraud charges.

The adjournment became necessary following a letter from his defence counsel, Mr. Olalekan Ojo (SAN), who was not available in court.

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) preferred 11 count charges against the popular musician.

The charge centered on fraud, possession of counterfeit credit cards, and conspiracy.

Recalled that the musician who sang the popular song “Am I a Yahoo Boy,” was arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo on the 20th May 2019, but he pleaded not guilty.

He was granted bail by the court in the sum of N2million and two sureties in like sum

The EFCC further explained that Naira Marley perpetrated the offences between 26 November 2018 and 11 December 2018, as well as 10 May 2019

Naira Marley and his accomplices conspired and used different Access Bank ATM cards to defraud people.

The anti-graft agency alleged that the defendant used Access Bank credit card number 5264711020433662 that belongs to another customer to obtain fraudulent financial gains.

EFCC also said he has in his possession counterfeit credit cards belonging to different people and the alleged offences contravened the provision of section 1 23 (1) (b), 27 (1) and 33(9) of the cybercrime (prohibition) prevention Act of 2015
