Three Nigerian Soldiers To Spend 10-Years Behind Bars For Killing Colleague

Three Nigerian soldiers were found guilty of murder on Friday 7th February. They were however sentenced to 10 years behind the bars by the general court-martial that deliberated over the case at the army headquarters in Abuja.

Captain Amosu was acquitted of the charges in the trial which was on for over three years. Major Ogbemudia, Major Akeem Oseni and Second lieutenant Nuhu Dogary were found guilty of torturing their colleague, Collins Benjamin, a Lance Corporal to death. This crime is punishable under section 105 of the Armed Forces Act 2004 by life imprisonment.

A report from Premium Times revealed that the soldier died when he was told to forward roll in a football pitch on 23rd February 2017 at the Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja.

So, the soldiers have been kept in the prison custody, but it was disclosed that Oseni has since been on the run after taking permission to use the restroom after the judgment was delivered. So, the SSS and the Nigerian Police have been alerted to hunt for the fleeing soldier.
