A police officer attached to a bank around the Ekeki Are of Yenagoa in Bayelsa State has allegedly shot and killed a serving member of the Nigeria Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Monday 6th January.

A Peace Mass Transit Bus driver was also shot by the police, leaving him seriously injured.

The policeman serving with a commercial bank in Yenagoa had a misunderstanding with a driver of a commercial bus over parking rights. According to an eyewitness, the Peace Mass Transit bus had parked in front of the bank to drop off passengers, after arriving from Abakaliki. But the officer disapproves of this and it led to an argument.

During the argument, the officer was said to have allegedly fired two shots at the driver. The driver was hit and a corps member was hit.

The corps member died at the scene while Doctors are still battling to save the life of the driver at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa

In a reprisal attack, irate Nigerians attacked the bank and vandalized properties at the bank premises.

However, the Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested the Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel on suspicion of Discreditable Conduct and Unlawful Use of his firearms. His arrest was on the orders of the state commissioner of police, CP Uche Anozia. The officer is currently at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.
