The UK government has indicted the Christ Embassy Church (UK branch) under the leadership of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.
The board of trustees of the Church is involved in a wide range of fraudulent practices which include illegally paying more than N827m (£1,767,250) to organizations and entities it’s in close relationship with.
However, the report which was published by the Charity Commission on its website in November 2019 shows that the board of trustees of the church was incriminated for shoddy of church’s account, curious and arbitrary payments, no proper recording of its decision-making process, non-compliance with its grant-making policy and mismanagement in the charity’s administration.
So, evidence
reveals that the church may be laundering funds of about N288 m (£615,420.00) from its UK branches to accounts controlled by
the Nigerian branch of the church, Christ Embassy Nigeria.
The Charity
Commission also discovered three illegally registered properties which were
done in the names of two members of its board of trustees, failed to secure
adequate insurance, failed to pay taxes worth over £250,000 on expenditures by employees, and violation of the
British building and town planning regulations.
The Charity Commission, which regulates charities in Wales and England, therefore, launched a statutory inquiry in 2014 to investigate the Christ Embassy on “several serious concerns relating to the use of funds for charity.
Members of trustees have been interviewed by the commission. Books and records have been checked, still not satisfied that the church has judiciously managed its funds.
The commission appointed Rod Weston of the International Audit and Accounting Firm, to take over the management of the church in what it described as “protective and temporary measure”
The report of the interim manager released on 14th November 2019 therefore says that the scope of the inquiry was to check the church’s transaction with partner organization with grants given to several unidentified entities and Loveworld television, Christ Embassy France, Christ Embassy Canada, Healing School, Rhapsody of realities, and IPCC Conference.
