The Lagos State Government has commenced the cashless policy for the payment of toll at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link bridge toll plaza.

Recall that Lagos State government had last year announced that it would integrate the cashless policy for toll payment at the Lekki/Ikoyi toll plaza from 1st January 2020 because of the huge traffic usually experienced due to cash payment.

Frederic Oladeinde, Lagos State Commissioner for transport who monitored the exercise at the toll plaza this Thursday 2nd January in the company of the MD, Lekki Concession Company Limited, Yomi Omomuwasan said the new policy was targeted at reducing traffic queue often experienced while making cash payment. He said this will reduce travel time and ease traffic movement along the corridor.

The commissioner said that the new cashless toll payment has brought improvement on movement at the toll plaza compared with the former method. He also noted that there is a need to educate residents to imbibe the new system by complying to enjoy its advantage on the free flow of traffic.

He, however, frowned at some motorists who wanted to deliberately sabotage the new policy for their selfish gain, revealing that some road users made photocopies of their payment vouchers for several uses. He, therefore, warned that the government would not hesitate to use the law on any motorists who attempt to truncate its effort at improving the free flow of traffic.
