Agba Jalingo, journalist and rights activist, has been granted bail by Justice Sule Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Calabar, Cross River State.

Agba Jalingo, publisher of CrossRiverWatch has been in detention since 22nd August 2019 after he allegedly accused the Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade of diverting N500m which belongs to the state. He has been charged for treasonable felony, terrorism, and attempt to topple the state government.

However, Justice Shuaibu set the bail bond at N10m with a surety in like sum. The surety must be based within the jurisdiction of the court and must show means to be able to forfeit the bail bond

The Cross River State took over prosecution of the case after denying that Governor Ben Ayade was the mastermind of Jalingo’s ordeal. His trial has, however, attracted attention from both local and international observers demanding his immediate release.
