A Young Man Allegedly Murdered His Father During A Quarrel Over Cooked Yam

A young man identified as Chibueze Iduma has been arrested by the Ebonyi State Police Command for allegedly killing his dad during a quarrel over cooked yam.

However, Mr. Emmanuel Oba Iduma, the deceased was allegedly murdered by his son who got angry on returning home and seeing that his father ate the yam he cooked for himself.

An eye witness said;

"While
they quarreled over the cooked yam, the father had hit the son with his walking
stick, and in retaliation, the son hit him back, he then fell down and
died."

So, the young man was arraigned before a magistrate court in Abakaliki over the incident that took place at the Amaofia Ngbo community in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on 20th December 2019. He was, therefore, handed a one-count charge of murder.

It reads;

 "That you Chibueze Iduma 'm', on the 20th
day of December 2019, at Amaefia Ngbo village, in the Ohaukwu Local Government
Area, under the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did unlawfully cause the
death of one Emmanuel Oba Iduma 'm', by hitting him with walking stick and
thereby committed an offense punishable under section 319 (1) of the Criminal
Code Cap. 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009." 

So, Blessing Chukwu, the Chief Magistrate, ordered that the young man be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Abakaliki.

Besides, the case has been moved to the Director of Public Prosecutions for appropriate advice as she does not have the necessary jurisdiction to take the matter.
