There was a
violent protest in Akesan town, Oyo State as a popular market went up in flames
early Sunday morning.
So, wares worth millions of naira were estimated to have been destroyed in the inferno. The Akesan market is popular for the sale of a wide range of food materials, clothing materials, household utensils, local artifacts, and several other things.
Although what led to the inferno is yet to be ascertained, eyewitnesses confirmed that the inferno started around 12:30 am. However, some people have attributed the incident to an electric spark. The fire service station is said to be few meters away from the market.
So, the people of the town reportedly went wild when officials on duty told them that they could not do anything to put out the inferno as there was no water in their truck.
Therefore, the mob reportedly set the fire station and the truck on ablaze in protest. However, firefighters from Ibadan had arrived at the market with a back up from Ogbomoso to put out the fire.
