Lekan, 21, who reportedly gained access to the Anglican Church of Triumphant at
the Falola area in Ipaja, Lagos to steal at the church has been arrested by the
police.
Lekan who
stole electric wire, welding machine, generating set, and other things worth
N400,000 from the church disclosed that he trained as a mechanic but abandoned
it to concentrate on stealing from churches.
The 21-year-old suspect gained access into the church premises by evening and was there till 2 am before successfully going away the things he stole. He was arrested when he came back to collect his tools he forgot in the church.
Upon
interrogation, he confessed to the crime and said he visits churches to steal
from them. The things he stole and hid at a nearby mechanic village were
recovered and used as exhibits in court. He was brought before an Ejigbo
Magistrate court on charges of stealing and burglary in the place of worship.
Chief
Magistrate T. O Shomade granted him bail with N100,000 with two sureties in
like sum. The case has been adjourned till March 22.
