Orji Uzor Kalu Will Be Paid His Full Salaries, Allowances In Prison – The Senate

The Nigerian senate has come out to say that the convicted former Abia State Governor and the senate current’s Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu will get his full salaries and allowances in prison until the Supreme Court upheld the judgment given by the Federal High Court some days ago.

The spokesperson of the Nigerian senate, Gdiya Akwashiku while speaking to Premium times said though the convicted senator representing Abia North won’t be involved in any legislative duties from prison, he is still a serving senator

In the senator’s word;

“He is still a senator. This is the first court. The matter is going to the Supreme Court so, he still has the opportunity to appeal up to the Supreme Court level.

“Of course they will pay him because he is a sitting senator just like I said… If you file for an appeal, you are still serving and they will pay you.

“All his entitlement will be paid. There is no cause for alarm. In fact, even if the court of appeal says they have upheld the judgment of the lower court. So, once the Supreme Court says, yes, the judgment is okay, then that’s the final.

He also said the seat of the senator won’t be declared vacant.
