Noble Igwe
has reacted after he got heat for a photo he posted to showcase his hometown to
his fans.
Recall that
the 360nobs founder had posted a photo of himself passing through a shallow
stream carrying a keg of water on his in Umuomaku, Anambra State, his hometown.
The photo
was captioned “Son of the soil, went to Ubo to take my bath and fetch drinking
water. Christmas in Umuomaku is incomplete without a visit to the stream.
Proudly Igbo”
This photo has attracted several criticisms. Some accused Noble Igwe of portraying The Igbo Land as a place without bathrooms and borehole. Some others said he has running water and bathroom in his home town in the village but just wanted to show off to his fan.
Also, some
Twitter users went as far as claiming that the keg he was carrying was empty
and just for props.
“This man put the empty keg on his head and snapped a picture for social media… 2020 will be a looooong year! Sigh, one Twitter user responded.
Reacting to this critic, Noble wrote, “I’m promoting the things I like about my community but all you care about is a borehole? Insecure people always trying to show off riches. I’d leave Lagos to show you borehole in Umuomaku.”
Another
Twitter user wrote, “I don’t know if Noble Igwe snapped picture with an
empty keg or not, but I hope one day the practice of fetching water from the
stream, with all the potential health risks, in rural Nigeria will be seen as
what it is, an infrastructural failure, instead of a ‘cultural
heritage’. “
