Okolie, Asaba-based businessman who was allegedly detained by the DSS for
10-weeks for owning a SIM card previously registered in Hanan’s name, has sued
Hanan, DSS, and MTN for N500m.
Recounting
his experience, Okolie who was arrested on 19th July 2019 in Asaba,
disclosed that he was detained in Handcuff until 22nd September 2019
by DSS who were waiting for the president’s daughter who was away schooling in
the UK.
Okolie
attached the receipt and the SIM certificate issued after buying the SIM to the
lawsuit document. He disclosed that he purchased the SIM card on 8th
December 2018 with phone number 09035666662 for N1000
The suit
FHC/ASB/CS/3/2020 is seeking for an order to make the respondents to jointly
pay the applicants N500m as aggravated and general damages for the unlawful
violation of his right to acquire movable properties, self-dignity, and freedom
of movement.
Anthony Okolie insists his arrest and detention contravened section35 and 34 of the 1999 constitution. He is asking the court to declare it as an abuse of his human rights.
