Lasser fever
outbreak has claimed some lives in Kano even as three persons have been
confirmed dead. A total of 292 people who has contact with the deceased are on
the Kano State watch list.
Commissioner
of health in Kano, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa confirmed the outbreak of the
disease during a press conference to newsmen on Wednesday 22nd
January. He said two doctors and a patient believed to be the first victim are
among the dead.
He further
said that 292 persons who had something to do with the deceased are closely
monitored to quarantine those who show symptoms.
The Nation
reported that the first victim of the Lasser fever in Kano is a 28-year-old
pregnant woman from Gwale LGA who took ill 2-weeks after her mother died. She
was asked to go to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital from a private health
facility but later died on the 1st of January.
The public has been advised to desist from poorly cooked meat, avoid contact with infected persons or items handled by them and to report any suspected case of Lasser Fever to the nearest hospital.
