Babatunde
Fashola, the current minister of works and housing, has clarified the recent
news that went viral on social media claiming he was scammed by a yahoo boy to
the tune of N3.1 Million. The suspect is presently with the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Fashola said that he neither transacted any business nor knew the suspect that would have led to him being scammed.
He explained that the amount involved was the worth of Air Miles which the suspect realized as a result of fraudulently hacking into his online account and creating a false identity that he used among other benefits to purchasing first-class tickets to different parts of the world.
“Having
consistently hacked into the accounts for over 6-years, the suspect was traced
by the minister until enough evidence was realized which the security
operatives used,” Fashola explained in a statement made was made available by
his spokesman, Hakeem Bello
The suspect,
Wakili Malik was arrested by the EFCC, for pulling an online scam against the
minister.
Wakili, who
allegedly impersonated Fashola to steal the sum of N3,106,216 was arraigned at
the Federal High Court, Lagos. He was alleged to have connived with one
Abdullahi Umar, who is currently at large.
The suspect
allegedly converted the sum of N3,106,216, the value of the Air-miles Skywards
Account Number EK248739282 of Fashola with the Emirate Airlines.
The offence
is contrary to sections 15(2)(a) and 27(1)(b) of the money laundry
(Prohibition) Act and punishable under section 15(3) and 22(3)(a) of the same
Act, the suspect, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
