Domestic worker kills employer, mother in Lagos

A domestic worker has killed his boss and her mother in Surulere area of Lagos State, barely two days after he resumed duty.

The terrible incident occurred on Thursday at No 4 Ogulana Drive, Surulere, Lagos.

On confirming the sad incident, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkana, in his report, said on June 20, 2019, that at about 3 am, the Surulere Police Station acknowledged a distress call from No 4 Ogulana Drive, Surulere

His statement revealed that one Joseph Ogbu, 22 years old, from Oju Local Government Area, of Benue State, who was employed as a domestic worker on June 18th, 2019, killed his employer, Oreoluwa John, 38, including her 89 years old mother, Adejoke at their apartment.

Meanwhile, the suspect Joseph Ogbu was said to have confessed to the crime.

Also, “In his statement, the suspect affirmed that his employer had asked him to clean the house just at about 9 pm on June 19th, 2019. Unfortunately, an argument, however, ensued between them, which quickly prompted him to stab her with a knife.

He thus revealed that the shock of her death made her aged mother of 89, to slump and die. The statement read

“Seeing that they were completely dead, he moved some valuable belongings such as handsets, electronics, and household items into the employer’s Toyota Camry Salon Car and attempted to run with all assets to where he could never be found before he was arrested by policemen on patrol at Ogunlana pin-down point. The car and valuable items stolen were, however, recovered.”

Mr. Elkana, also added that the crime scene was immediately sealed off and that the corpses of the two victims were also taken to the Mainland Hospital, Yaba for autopsy.

He stated that the commissioner of police, Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu, had ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba to immediately take over the investigation and charge the suspect to Court.
