Gov. Bala Mohammed rejects state police

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has revealed that Nigeria is not yet ready for state police.

The Governor, made this disclosure when he received the Emirs of Ningi, Mohammed Inusa Danyaya, and Misau, Ahmed Suleiman, recently when they paid him the Sallah homage at the Government House, in Bauchi.

Mohammed Bala, however, pointed out that his administration would not align with the idea of forming state police due to its ethnopolitical implications.

While responding to the appeal of the Emir of Ningi, Mohammed Inusa Danyaya, who beseeched him not to accept the thought of state police in the State because, in his views, this would only increase criminal doings in the state.

Governor Bala, however, assured that his administration will work hard to ensure the protection of the lives and property of the citizens.

He revealed that instead of the state police, his administration would rather set up a Security Trust Fund, which will ultimately allow traditional leaders to tackle insecurity challenges in their respective areas because they are the guardians of the people around them.

Meanwhile the Governor, also expressed displeasure with the participation of traditional institutions in the last general elections in the state, thus, advising them against meddling in political activities so as to maintain their respect.

Also, he assured traditional institutions in the state that as part of his efforts to ensure the preservation of peace, security and peaceful coexistence among the people of Misau Emirate, he will ensure the rehabilitation of their roads is achieved.
